Some times ago there was started a thread on the Heraldry of German Worl War II personalities. Here I intend to follow this with a look on Arms of British and in the wider sence also Empire/Commonwealth WW II personalities.
As can be seen they are mostly military ones.
Fieldmarshal Sir Harold Rupert Leofric George Alexander, KG, GCB, OM, GCMG, CSI, DSO, MC, PC created Earl Alexander of Tunis 1952.
Arms- Per pale argent and sable, achevron and in base a crescent, all counterchanged, on a canton azure a harp or, stinged argent.
Crest: an arm in armour, embowed proper holding a sword of the last hilt and pommel Or.
Supporters: Dexter a piper of the Irish Guards holding under the interior arm a bagpipe, sinister a sepoy of the 3rd/2nd Punjabi Regiment supporting with the exterior hand a rifle proper, each charged on the shoulder with an escutcheon barry nebuly of six argent and azure.
Motto: Per mare, per terras, per astra (By the Sea, Land and Air).
The Harp and Piper Supporter probably alludes to Lord Alexander’s post as Colonel of the Irish Guards 1947-69. The Sepoy (soldier of the Indian Army) alludes I guess to the two Indian Divisions which was under the command of the then General Alexander when he Commanded the 15th Army Group in Italy. The shields carried on the shoulders of the Supporters are the Formation Sign of the 15th Army Group.
Field Marshal Sir Alan Francis Brooke, KG, GCB, OM, GCVO, DSO created Viscount Alanbrooke in 1946.
Arms: Or, a cross engrailed per pale gules and sable, in the first quarter a crescent of the second.
Crest: a brock, proper.
Supporters: on either side an officer of the Royal Horse Artillery in full dress proper, supporting with the exterior han an escutcheon azure charged with seven barrulets wavy argent surmounted by a salmon rising gules.
Motto: Gloria Finis = Glory at the end.
The Shield and Crest are the orignal Brooke Arms. The Badger in the crest are named using the older name for this animal, thus making it canting. The supporters alludes to Lord Alanbrooke’s tenure as Colonel-Commandant of the Royal Horse Artillery 1940-57 and perhaps also of the Royal Regiment of Artillery 1939-57.
Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Caswell Tremenheere Dowding, GCB, GCVO, CMG created Baron Dowding of Bentley Priory Co. Middlesex 1943. Air Officer Commanding Fighter Command (RAF) 1936-40.
Arms: Argent, three bars gemel sable, over all a fleur-de-lys azure, on a chief of the second, three Doric columns of the first.
Crest: Upon a catherine wheel azure, a falcon rising or, belled and hooded gules.
Motto: Laborare est orare.
Lieutenant General Bernard Cyril Freyberg, VC, GCMG, KCB, KBE, DSO with three Bars, KSJ, created in 1951 Baron Freyberg of Wellington in New Zealand and of Munstead in the County of Surrey. Commanded the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force in World War II and served as Governor-General of New Zealand 1946-52. He died 1963.
Arms: Or, on achief sable four mullets of the field.
Crest: A demi Lion gules holding between the paws an Eagle displayed sable.
Supporters: On either side a salamander proper.
Motto: New Zeal and Honour.
The Crest problably alludes to the British Lion defeating the German Eagle. The Motto makes a pun on New Zealand.
Field Marshal Sir (William) Edmund Ironside GCB, CMG, DSO, Hon. LLD. Created in 1941 Baron Ironside of Archangel an of Ironside, County of Aberdeen. The Archangel part alludes to His post as Commander in chief Allied Force at Archangel (Russia) in 1919. At the outbreak of World War II Ironside served as Chief of the Imperial General Staff. A post He was not particulary suited for and in May 1940 he was removed and made Commander in Chief Home Forces. He Died in 1959.

In 1947 he was made the last Viceroy of India overseeing Independence and partition. Upon retiering from active duty made Colonel of the Life Guards and Colonel-Commandant of the Royal Marines.
Arms:
The origins are the Arms of the Hessian Counts Battenberg (the Family chaged its name to Mountbatten following the antigerman feelings during WW I, which also led the Royal Family to take the name Windsor). The Enscutcheon shows the Arms of Princess Alice, matenal grandmother to Lord Mountbatten and Queen Victoria’s Second Daughter. Picture by Heralder on Wikipedia.

Crest: Issunat from an astral crown or, a lion sejant guardant sable armed and langued or,holding in the sinister fore-paw a sword enflamed as in the Arms.

The enflamed Sword are taken from the insignia of SHAEF. The Eagle are symbol of the Royal Air Force. The Astral Crown are usualy granted to Air Force Generals (or as the British style them Air Marshals). The Egyptian God Horus is God of the Sky an probably alludes to Lord Tedder’s terms as Commanding Officer in the Middle East, based in Egypt.

Work by Sodacan on Wikimedia Commons. Note the Royal Crown on the label, a reference to the former position as King.
The Duke was seen as having pro German tendencies and was after serving on the British Military Mission to France in the begining of the War, sent to the Bahamas. He served as Governor there until 16 March 1945. He was after that never given a official post again. Thogether with his Wife the American Wallis Simpson he spent the rest of his life in France. The Union being childless so the question of the title being inherited never had to arise.
