Guy,

What about crossed lightning with the commando knife?  Keeps the link to your fathers arms and provides a nice cant to your name.

Anyway, we should probably get back on topic…

You never mentioned his name.  I thought it was Glover ... but then you said the hand was a cant to his name.

Please tell us!

Thanks,

For what it’s worth, I wouldn’t change the arms or assume new arms.  Keep them Guy, they are attractive and vert appropriate.

The armiger’s surname is Palmore.  The palm is what I was going for and it was his idea.  Glover was a good guess!

Sounds like "a palm Or" would also be a good cant.

It would be tiring to have to explain that all the time. But people always the option of changing inherited arms to suite their own tastes. It’s hard to reconcile the desire for arms that represent you and the traits that define you with the knowledge that those inheriting your arms are not you. They don’t even have the same heritage as you, half comes from the other parent. It seems to me that if someone feels that an item on inherited arms is meant to only represent the armiger who bears it, they can leave it off or modify it as needed to please them. If they don’t want to change it, then there’s no issue."

Any heraldic design will of necessity be a balancing of various considerations - include a lot vs. simplicity, my story vs. my forebearers & descendants, etc. n- that’s part of the challenge, and the fun!  There’s no requirement, or even reasonable expectation, that every designer will strike the same balabce; but it is IMO important that the possible variables be cexplored & considered before settling on a final design.

Speaking personally, my value judgements tend to favor an approach that will hopefully appeal to the whole family, past, present & future;  It can take more thought & work, and of course there can be no guarantees. that everyone potentially concerned will be pleased; but for me at least, that’s the goal.

Recognizing of course that others may adopt different approaches, but hopefully at least they will give this approach some consideration.
