Just tried to access the TIOH Web site but found it blocked. Have any of you experienced the same?

Yes, me too.  It was still open to the world two days ago, but today it’s blocked for security reasons.

OMG - are the North Koreans trying to hack our Top Secret heraldry files??

(Actually, it may be just that - hacking into a relatively innoculous site as a back door to more sensitive stuff.  Maybe we’ll see TIOH on a future episode of NCIS Cyber…)

They (USA IT staff) may have been "hardening" the website. Or maybe they just forgot to pay the bill!!

Still blocked for me as at 10:50 SA Time.  Perhaps it’s because I’m outside the USA.

Yes, very likely the non-US locations.  When there is a breach in a domain, the usual response is first to block the whole domain, then open it to dot-mil addresses, then open it gradually as the cyber-defenders decide it’s safe to do so.  (I hope I’m not giving away sensitive tactics here.)

Note that it’s not the importance of what’s on the TIOH site itself that’s involved. The site is hosted by hqda.pentagon.mil, "hqda" standing for "Headquarters, Department of the Army."

A little inside cyber gouge: in order to keep hacking down, the DoD is going to start blocking whole countries’ IP addresses. The idea is that military members overseas will be coming from the .mil space and still have access. Also, the loss of availability to overseas users is balanced by the increased ability to defend DoD networks.

It seems my prior post was correct.  I have nice quick access to it from a computer on the .mil top level domain.

I have no problem getting to the site from my computer at home, so it’s not just .mil.

Good for you then, still blocked here in Sweden.
