I totally share your frustration.

Apparently, it automatically backs up once a day but for some reason occasionally doesn’t turn itself back on.  Unless one of the administrators happens to check in, it stays closed until I or someone else can call their attention to the problem.

Jeremy Hammond has been working on migrating our website to a new host, which should happen before too much longer, and he tells me this shouldn’t happen once that takes place.

Thank you for the explanation, Joseph. I was wondering what was happening.

Yes thanks for the info. I was thinking, "there can’t possibly be that much to back up!" wink

I also wondered about the constant backups.

It is incredibly frustrating and I’m sorry I haven’t been as present to keep an eye on things.

We are launching a new website soon (very exciting) and will no longer be dependent on the outdated software that is currently operating behind the scenes of the forum.

Jeremy,

I do hope that your comments do not mean that this forum goes the same way as the earlier forum and that we have to start over again.

Having written that, I must thank the Society and the administrators of this forum for all their hard work behind the scenes.

Regards,

Iain Boyd

Good point! I am pleased to say that won’t be the case. All content from both the forum and the public website is being migrated to the new site. The contributions of Society Members and other visitors of the forum are treasured by the board and their preservation has been a chief concern through this process.

Will the content of the original forum also be included?

If any of it was uploaded into the new (current) forum, it will be included in the transfer. If however the content you are referring to is currently inaccessible, it will probably remain so.
