Origin of the term "Bucket Shop"?

So why is a company that sells "your family coat of arms" called a bucket shop?  Not a trick question, just curious.

Isn’t it because they sell “family” arms by the bucket full to gullible customers? I may be wrong…

Donnchadh, given Guy’s description, I think you are right.  Take out the money and replace it with CoAs.  Arms by the bucket full.  Come get your arms!
