The arms of the Archdiocese seems to have changed, previously the cross was made up of golden chains. Do you know anything about this Father Guy?

I had heard a slightly different version.  As I mentioned in a piece published in The Gonfanon: Newsletter of the Royal Heraldry Society of Canada (Spring, 2006)  p. 16, the late Anthony W.C. Phelps, who did the art work for the re-designed arms for Cardinal McCarrick, advised me that the gold and silver cross botony, which reflects the cross botony in the Crossland quarter of the arms of Maryland and Lord Baltimore, was substituted to evidence more clearly the Maryland origins of the Archdiocese which includes southern Maryland and Saint Mary’s City, which was the first settlement in Maryland. The District of Columbia was ceded to the United States by the State of Maryland. The cross botony is also used in the arms of the Archdiocese of Baltimore from which it was detached in 1939

Yes, it’s a rose, a symbol of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The arms of don Javier Echevarría, bishop prelate of the Opus Dei:

(The circle means the cross into the world. It is the badge of the Work. The rose is a copy of the one that St. JosephMaria Escrivá found in Pallerols, in the Rialp barony, near to Pirinees, during the Spanish civil war).

Because Jose linked the image to his own hard drive (see the c:\ at the beginning of the URL in the link).  To appear in the text of the message, the image must be uploaded to an internet site and linked from there.  Jose should be able to share the image with us by attaching it to his message rather than by linking it.  (Use the little paperclip icon at the top of the message menu.)

The arms of the first bishop prelate of Opus Dei, don Álvaro del Portillo, are the same as the arms of the current prelate but whithout the bordure. The motto is: Regnum Christum volumus.

The arms of the founder of the Work, St. Josephmaria are: Chequy Or and Gules, 15 pieces (15 chequys?). It is possible see these arms in the altarpiece of the Torreciudad shrine (in Aragon, Spain) whit the 3 other family CoA of the fouder. These shields are in the hands of different giant angels.
