Hi, I added some chess charges to the arms as a few of you suggested.  Please, vote.

I don’t see the arms. The crests in the other poll were fine but here all I see are the radio buttons and your message asking for the vote.

I like number 2 a whole lot, however, I’d suggest you drop the laurel wreath. Just my personal opinion.

The chess piece may make more of an impact without the wreath.  Also, it is worth considering using a queen…just my 2 cents.

....or a knight or a rook—as visually "chess" as possible.

Thanks guys.

I’ll try dropping the wreath after the poll ends.  My tastes tend put me in the "less is more camp" too.

The pro-side of following the simplicity aesthetic is that dropping the wreath makes the arms less busy.  The con-side is that it also makes them less distinctive in their community—other chess club arms/logos.  The same goes for using the typical chess "charges"—rooks, knights, kings, queens, and pawns.

The problem is that I want the ultimate design to stay in type but not be typical.  I want it to be instantly recognizable as a chess club (even at a distance), and original enough in its charges or lack of charges that it’s not likely to be duplicated by the next Joe trying to come up with a distinctive chess club logo/CoA.

So, I thought I would just throw up a poll and deal with it all after the poll closes on Jan. 10th.

Please, encourage others to vote here and on the Crest Poll too.

yes ... use the rook ... in Neubecker’s great book on heraldry there are several examples of Italian heraldry with the rook in it and they are great! much better than the pawn i think.
