Hey everybody, here is something interesting I found. This shows the evolution of the coat of arms of the State of Kuwait.

I really like the one from 1956. I think this might possibly have been designed by a British colonial official? This was the case with a few other British-influenced (or controlled, depends how you look at it) states, such as Bahrain. The coat of arms of Bahrain is very interesting as it features British style mantling. I will post more of these examples of the heraldry of the Persian gulf area shortly.

says: Some of the emblems used by the government of Abu Dhabi, 1968.

The Jordanian royal coat of arms. Very similar to the arms of the former royal house of Iraq (which was ruled by the same family. Basically, a Luxembourg and Netherlands type situation!)

Bahrain coat of arms. Designed by a British official (commisioner, resident?). It at one point was ensigned by an Antique (or ‘Eastern" coronet) but this was removed. Though it is now used again, in a different form, on the King’s Royal Standard.

says: Arms of the Iraqi state from 1931 to 1958.

I once saw a medal showing just the "shield of arms" in detail. I will try to find it and post it.

More pictures in more posts. Stay tuned

Arms of the Sharifs of Mecca, later Kings of Hejaz. "Source" of both Jordanian and Iraqi rulers. All three were ruled by the Hashemite family.

Arms of the Mutawakilite Kingdom of Yemen. The plant represents cofee, a major Yemeni export.

Sultanate of Lahej, within Yemen. Yemen used to be like Italy and Germany, lots of little principalities. The inscription reads "Saltanit Lahaj" (The Sultanate of Lahej). Although all of the sub-states used flags, as well as some having additional royal standards, I have yet to find arms for any except Lahej.

Something interesting though:

The bottom flag, of the Quaiti state of Shihar and Mukala was designed by the British College of Arms, as was the royal standard, featuring an Antique/Eastern coronet.
