It is an interesting combination that makes me ask where the Sofo originates in Europe, if the arms are any clue then I would guess at the southeast of France, because of the combination of the fleur-de-lys or (for France?) with the lozengy pattern (for Monaco?). Actually the arms are quite acceptable in design and in response to Dennis’ comment, I have to say that I have seen many many worse examples of coats-of-arms.

The family in Toledo is Italian.  One member of the family owns the Tratoria Sofo resteraunt.  It is absolutely wonderful and I highly recommend it if you are in the Toledo area.

Thank you for the information. With an Italian back ground the fleur-de-lys could represent a Florentine origin or an allegiance to the House of Bourbon-Two Sicilies. Of course the use of the fleur-de-lys could always represent Marian devotion and have no reflection whatsoever on the family’s geographical origins.

Or it could simply signify that people consider fleurs-de-lys sort of classy, or even royal looking.  Absent information, I’d be disinclined to attribute too much to the symbolism.

You are of course correct Joseph but let me write that I am easily amused by heraldic speculation of this sort.

While I do not know the owner of the resteraunt very well, he happens to be my father-in-law’s neighbor.  He is also acquainted with me, because we have eaten at his resteraunt many times, and he catered my wedding.  I don’t feel comfortable calling him or running over to his house, but I promise…the next time I see him, I will ask if he can provide any history on his coat of arms.

I have seen the SOFO FOODS trucks, usually on my way to work, for a while now but never seem to remember about them when I’m online. Today I did and I was about to start a new thread, but then, on a whim, I did a search first. All sorts of firsts today. smile
