For everyone’s information, the heraldic guidelines we worked on as well as the information on US heraldic registering organizations and the bibliography ("Basic Heraldic Bookshelf") are now available on the AHS website, linked from the home page.
Some work yet to be done on internal links and breaking up large pages, but the information is now up online.
Thanks for those. They should be extremely helpful for a novice like myself.
Now to see if the Public Library has any of these books.

I have found that in smaller towns, the local genealogical society is often the better place to look for heraldic reference books.
Cleveland’s a decent-sized town of about 85-90 thousand. Although the local historical/genealogical society is on life support, a situation my university’s history department is attempting to remedy, we have a relatively well-stocked history branch of the public library. A quick keyword search on "Heraldry" turned up Boutell, Pine, Crozier, Fox-Davies and Zieber from the first list.
Now the question is where to start.

I like to buy books using : http://www.bestwebbuys.com/books/index.html
As do I, however budgetary concerns require that I not make my purchases blindly, but make sure that I prioritize my purchases.
Thanks for the link, I’ll check into it.

Joseph,
Do you know if Phil Blanton’s "American Heraldic Primer" will be going up any time soon? Thanks!
I passed some edits back to him and he’s going through them. I can’t speak for his timeline.

While not linked to on the webstie, he has given us permission to link to it in e-mails and whatnot, and send our friends there if they are interested in heraldry.

I’m almost finished with the (hopefully) final copy. This class I’m taking right now has bogged me down a bit, so I haven’t been able to work on it much. However, now that my midterm is out of the way, I’ll try to get it finished. :D
Also, as Colin pointed out, please feel free to link friends to the "beta-version" for now. It is located here.
Take care,
