Greetings, everyone.
I thought I should share my secret project with you all, since it is most definitely heraldic in nature. It is very much a work-in-progress, but it should be completed soon. The plan is to give this to my Father as his Christmas present. Without further ado:

The shield will bear our family arms. I was not brave enough to try and repeat the design on the surcoat as well, so I’m having him wear one in the livery colors (green/white) and bearing our badge. I spent some time tonight practicing painting the garb and will apply it tomorrow, and then I have to practice on the estoiles. Because of the shield shape they’ll probably be in a 4-3-3-2-1 pattern. I also have some finishing touches to do on the miniature before I finish it off by mounting it on a small pedestal.
By the way, this miniature stands just over two inches tall. It is supposed to represent a knight from c.1250.
Anyway, let me know what you think, and I’ll be sure to share the finished product.
Magnificent work. I’m sure your father will be more than pleased with the final result.
that looks very nice
Lovely, Jerbs! Make sure you keep us up on your progress.
Really like it! Beautiful! Love to see the finished product as well!

Perhaps we should wait and see if I can actually pull of the freehand designs on the surcoat and shield before I start taking commissions.
Beautiful work. I’m very jealous, I’ve been wanting to do something similar, but haven’t been brave enough yet

I don’t know, I think it takes more bravery to get a tatoo!
Nice stuff. That’s some meticulous attention to detail. It’s looking really good.

Hehe, there are different kinds of bravery. A tattoo could just as easily be recklessness.

I’m impressed with gold line between the green and black parts of the shield.
I can paint smaller figures for wargaming pretty well, but I can’t do anything free hand. I need the design to be physically sculpted on the figure. In my defense I’m working on a much smaller scale (15 mm - 28 mm, AKA 1 inch), and I can’t spend hours on a figure, but still. And he’s got eyes! Not white dots, but real eyes!
I’m intimidated by saltires.

very nice Jon! i am happy for you and quite impressed!
Nicely done, Jonathan! I’m sure your father will be greatly pleased with it. Indeed, show us some pictures of the finished product when you are done.
Very impressive. Please do show us the final product.

Yeah, or outright stupidity. Oh wait, I think I just called myself stupid :D
Wow, very nice, Jerbo! I’m guessing that might also be how you visualize yourself if you lived in medieval times?
Happy Holidays,
