I particularly liked the arms of Lech Walesa of Poland, and the Finnish president immediately below it.

Thank you Guy for your learned response. My Chinese governmental seal (or chop) is inscribed on its side with just four characters, with the extra two representing Great Seal, 乃璽, lacking as it should.

This diagonal white, blue and red border surrounding the arms is similar to the one used on the present standard of the President of Slovakia. It is derived from long standing Austro-Hungarian vexillological traditions.

It should be noted that President Walesa’s Arms also have a crest (not shown) the Eagle Argent from the arms of Poland issuant.

The full arms painted by Bengt Olof Kälde after the ideas of Adam Heymowski. The shield is based on the arms of the City of Gdansk where Walesa was working as an electrician at the Lenin Shipyards and came to be known as one of the leaders of the Solidarity-movement. The City arms show two crosses but one has here been replaced by a Fleur-de-lys denoting Walesa’s devotion to St. Mary. The Polish Motto translates as "With courage and wisdom".

From the Book Bengt Olof Kälde - Kyrkokonstnär och heraldiker:

http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/9553/sikiritlb2.jpg

Stall Plate of HM Queen Sirikit of Thailand, Appointed Member on 3 Septmeber 1960.

http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/6886/scalfaroqy1.jpg

Stall Plate of Oscar Luigi Scalfaro born in 1918, President of Italy 1992-1999. He was appointed Knight on 30 April 1998.

During as visit to the Royal Palace I did inspect the Stall Plates of the Living Knights and Members hung there. There I found one which I havn’t been able to find a picture of (there is not allowed to take photos in the Royal Palace), so I include an attempted Blazon:

Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, since 1996 President of Iceland.

Az. two Axes erect Arg with the blades facing outwards and surmounted by a Cross throughout Arg charged with a dito Gu.

Obviously based on the Flag of Iceland and the Axes symbolising St.Olaf for the first name of the President. Olafur being the Icelandic form of Olaf.

Thank you for posting these.  Though I am not Swedish, I feel regret that the days of knighthoods for Swedes have gone.

This leaves the Swedish Johanniter Order as the only chivalric institution for natives of Sweden, and it is restricted to the nobility.

There’s also the Order of Carl XIII, which might be thought of as being in a class of its own.

Yes Egerland it is sad that the power to be decided that no Swede (with execption of members of the Royal Family) will be awarded the Swedish Orders. Thankfully there is no ban on Swedes recieving foreign Orders.

Joe, the Order of Carl XIII is indeed a Class of its own as it only can be bestowed upon High Grade Freemasons.

Why is the collar of Princess Madeleine different than the collars of the Crown Princess Victoria and HRH Prince Carl-Philip?  Only the Queen of Thailand (in 1960), of the stall plates posted here, had a similar collar to Princess Madeleine’s.
