Greets!  I was wondering if you could school a heraldic rookie on what book in your collection would get me off to a good start, if any?  I have none and would like to start building a library.

Thanks.

Scott, I propose you start with our Society’s Heraldic Primer and then move on to review the proposed basic heraldic bookshelf

I know David can suggest a few books from his vast library that may interest you.

I have quite a few of the beginner books listed on the web page. I could assemble a starter box for you if that is what you wanted.

I would definitely be interested.  Pick a few and PM me the cost of the books, shipping, etc.  You’d know better than I would which ones are good for beginners.

In my quest to reduce the size of my library by at least 1000 lbs., I have just listed two very difficult to find hard bound books on Catholic orders on EBay.

Orders of Knighthood, Awards and the Holy See by Archbishop Hygenius Eugene Cardinale and edited by Peter Bander Van Duren. 1983/1984 Edition. EBay No. 120331026681

The Cross on the Sword, A Supplement to Orders of Knighthood and the Holy See by Peter Bander van Duren, 1987.

EBay No. 120331031273

Each of the books start at $9.99.

Best wishes to all of you,

I want to thank everyone who purchased books from me. My library has already been reduced by 164 pounds of books with more to still go.

A few antiquarian books on heraldry:

Heraldry in History, Poetry and Romance by Ellen Millington, London: Chapman and Hall, 1858. Hardbound in leather and marbled oil paper, gilt on edges. Contains three heraldic bookplates from various periods.

Heraldic Anomalies Volumes I & II, by Edward Nares, London: R. Gilbert, 1824. Second edition in two volumes. Hardbound in leather and marbled oil paper.

Flags of the Maritime Nations prepared by the Bureau of Equipment, Department of the Navy, Washington: 1899. Former library book with the usual markings. Original binding somewhat tattered, but with all the desirable colour plates of jacks, ensigns, Imperial and Royal Standards as well as naval rank flags of the Great Powers of the day. Missing the verso of the frontispiece. Quite rare and collectible just the same.

Contact me by PM if there is any interest.
