The arms of the Barentsburg Station, a Russian mining conglomerate station, in Norwegian arctic territory by treaty.

Well I would call it more a logo then an Arms. But there are certainly elements that could be used.

A suggestion: Azure two Polar Bears Argent combatant and holding between them a Miner’s Pick Axe Or and in chief an arch of Northern Lights Argent.

Or if one doesent want the combatant stance: Azure between two Polar Bears passant Argent a Miner’s Pick Axe in bend Or.

I don’t know if the namegiver the Explorer Willem Barents had any arms, if he did one could perhaps use som elements thereof.

I generally dislike letters and numbers in arms. Here I take it that the 78 refers to the latitude of the station, but the palar line seems more longitudinal.

Is this an example of two shades of orange?

These arms are, actually, neither Russian arms (in either legal or purely heraldic sense) nor Norvegian ones. The specific status of Barentsburg (which is effectively subordinated to Russia but is under Norwegian sovereignty) provides the settlement with a problematic context as to the application of the law of arms. Any suggestions? smile
