work in progress

this is what i have come up with so far.

i still learning about heraldry…...been doing a bunch of reading.

i have been using the armorial gold’s symbolism library.

it states that the potent was a symbol of ancient Mesopotamia, i wanted to put this in my family’s coat of arms.  my brother and i both served in iraq.

the fesse, representing the military belt, and the "sam brown" the belt of a police officer. my current occupation. the fesse also is smiliar to how we honor a fallen officer.

well this is the fist step in my arms. (go easy on me wink )

Simple and elegant. So simple, though, that it likely already exists. Perhaps someone with Rietstap’s can look it up.

I like the heraldry.

In the illustration, the "T’s" could be larger and more distinctive.

And more importantly, thank you for your service and your sacrifices.

Very nice.  I prefer the bend, myself.  And the simpler the better - it’s very bold right now, so only add judiciously.

Very nice, but I have a distinct feeling of having seen this before… It is, however, possible that it was an illustration of how to do this particular ordinary…

i do perfer the bend.  well this is not the end product… i plan on changing the colors to blue and white.

blue is color of the infantry and is associated with law enforcement, my dept. uniform shirt is blue.. :shootout:

Simple and elegant indeed.  Unintended duplication is a possibility, but hopefully this manages to slip through.  smile

I was wondering if anyone would suggest a cant for the name Dexter.  It’s not as easy as it first appears.

Perhaps you could charge the bend with a Dexter hand pointing to Dexter. smile

Dear Charles,

A good start with a simple, but, effective design. I prefer the bend rather than the fesse - it fills the field better without the large amount of ‘white’ space above and below the fesse.

If you are worried about duplicating an existing coat of arms, how about adding another charge in chief.

Another possibility is -

"Per Pale argent and azure, a bend cotised potenty (?) counterchanged.".

All the best,

Iain Boyd

I like this, but does it really need to be cotised?  I think a bend potenty would be a nicer look.
