I was wondering the same thing. Somewhere along the line someone knew what they were doing. It can’t just be an accident that a character named Stark has a coat of arms that contains stars. For that matter a double-headed eagle might be an allusion to someone having two identities (as in a secret superhero identity).
I looked for something that might tell me how the coat of arms came to be. Even watched the movie again to see if it appeared anywhere else besides the plane; didn’t see anything. I even called up a buddy who’s waaaaaay into Iron Man and he had no suggestions as to how the arms came about. He remembers them from the movie, but he can’t recollect out of the hundreds of comic books if it appears. Guess he was more concerned about explosions and plot twists. :D
As my daughter is a big fan of Twilight " And a bit obsessed with it " I give you the arms of the Cullen family of the Twilight movies ( It appears they are for the family according to Hollywood ).

Awesome! How were you able to take a screen shot of the movie? When ever I pasted it, the screen was black where the movie was supposed to be.
Due to copyright issues, the newer versions of some video players black out the video screen when the print screen button is hit, it is simply built into the software. You may have to simply try playing the videos in other video players and see which allow you to snap a screen shot, or if you have an older version, keep that.

Oh, I see that they have incorporated the White Hand of Saruman from Tolkien’s books.
Speaking of Tolkien, back when the Lord of the Rings movies came out, I was reading up on the stories and there was a couple of articles that went into detail of the heraldry (though only a little and mentioned in passing) found in the books. One had a shield all black, one black with a single white eye as a charge and so forth.
I know *The Name of the Rose* had an heraldic advisor listed in the credits, but I can’t remember much heraldry in the film.

Yes heraldry plays quite a part in the Books and also in the Movies. The Riders of Rohan for instance displays Green Banners with a White Horse.

Well so can’t I, but there are quite a while since I saw the Movie.

In a brief review of The Name of the Rose that I wrote when the movie first came out, I noted that: "They even had an adviser on Heraldry, and I didn’t see a scrap of heraldry in the entire flick!"
So your memory is very good; there was no heraldry in the film to speak of.

Perhaps he advised them against the use of heraldry.
Just watched Moonfleet with Stewart Granger on TCM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moonfleet_(1955_film)
The Macguffin is a large diamond hidden centuries before by a pirate named Sir John Mahune. The Mahune arms (Sable, a pall argent) appear throughout, marking graves, and gates, and ultimately the treasure’s hiding place.

Haha I was just thinking that option as well. Wikipedia says the movie is set in 1327, and coats of arms were being used mainly by noble families, and not yet by commoners.
