Kenneth - you’re the man. If I ever get to your neck of the woods, I owe you a lot of *beer.

*if you’re a drinking man, of course. smile

Fear not. If you’re buying, I’m drinking.

There is one other charge that I haven’t fully explored. Has anyone ever heard of the neon Pegasus that stands atop what was the Magnolia Oil building in Dallas, TX? It is still considered to be an icon of Dallas.

I am from Dallas and even though I signed a 20-yr ticket here in Albuquerque, I will always be a Texan. You can’t take that away from me. It’s ingrained in us, from birth really.

If the rat is not a typical heraldic charge, a Pegasus is. I’m wondering if it’s worth exploring. If I were going to go that route, it would have to red. BY the way, Magnolia Oil did become Mobil Oil.

I’m wondering if you want to bring Texas in with their famous star instead of the compass rose.  I’m not sure what the significance of the compass is for you but if you feel more strongly about the rat then maybe substituting the stars could work.

I want to avoid 5-pt mullets at all costs! But sure, a single star would evoke thoughts of Texas. I like the Pegasus because it’s a little known symbol of the greatest city on earth.

okay, maybe that whole "greatest city" thing was a little much…

Haha, yeah I don’t know about "greatest city".  I’ve been to Dallas.  wink

Fair enough about the star.  I just thought I’d throw it out there.  But to be honest, I prefer the rat to the pegasus.  I think the rat is very unique, and look at how much discussion it brought about in this thread.  At least no one will be able to say it’s like all the others out there.

Hope this isn’t too washed out. I’m tempted to do a white rat, but it’ll end up looking like The Brain.

Not sure about the new pegasus one.  I do like the per chevron look but the Or with the compass rose reads a little like "Eye of Sauron" to me.  Sorry.

I still think that this is my favorite.  It has the per chevron shape, all of your colors, and the rat is clearly visible.  If you feel that the rat is a little small, maybe the chevron field can be taken higher to allow for more room?  Not sure if that’s possible but it’s a thought.

I think what may be throwing this off a bit is the position of the pegasus.  Due to the shape of the charge, it is placed rather low in the field and is not spread out utilizing the field.

I’m still partial to this design, although I would agree that a rampant rat is a bit strange.

You could even do three compass roses and counter-change the middle one.

And if you’re worried about the rat being too small, well take a little artistic license and make the top partitions a little smaller.

If you don’t particularly like rats - I think it looks like a rat trying to climb out of some kind of trap or falling into one.  Maybe not embattled?  There are several earlier I like better to include your original and Kevin’s favorite in the above post.

I didn’t want to be a dissenting voice again but I agree.  As soon as I saw the new design I thought "rat is falling into an alligator’s mouth".  I still think some of your original ideas are much better.  And this rat is really growing on me.  I like your rat, josh’s rat and your badge.
