Greetings All,
It has been about a week since I originally asked for the Board’s blessings to solicit responses to my survey and I haven’t yet heard anything. I’m going to assume that this does not go against the forum’s guidelines since it is not a commercial enterprise and post the link to the survey. If you are interested in helping me find out something about this community and how it functions as an educational body, please follow this link to a survey:
The American Heraldry Society as a Community of Practice
There are 10 general questions that should take no more than five or ten minutes to complete. Feel free to skip any questions that you cannot answer or do not want to answer. I’m not trying to fit you into neat categories—I’m more interested in your opinions. Your identity will be kept confidential and I really appreciate any input that you can provide. Have a great evening!
Peace,
Dave Boven
Haven’t gotten around to taking the survey yet, but I do intend to. :D
Great! Every bit of information will provide a richer description of our little community of practice.
Peace,
Dave
Thanks so much to those who have taken the time to complete this survey. I’m collating and coding the responses and it seems like there are some interesting themes presenting themselves. If you’re still willing to help, you can access the survey HERE. Have a great weekend!
Peace,
Dave
Dave,
Thanks for the reminder. Done!
Oh yes, thanks Edward for remind me to post here, I had completed the survey as well.
May I ask how long the survey takes to complete?
Done!
Regarding Completion Time:
All of the questions are entirely optional, so it takes as long as you want it to. If you give long answers to all of the available questions, I’d say it will take fifteen minutes at the most. From the time stamps on the existing surveys, it looks like it’s taken people between five and ten minutes. Thanks, all!
Peace,
Dave

It’s short, to the point and rather easy… 15 mins max.
Greetings All,
I’m sure that some of you will remember this thread. Almost exactly two years ago, I started the research project described above. It was done as the basis for the dissertation for a master’s degree program in which I was enrolled. Those of you who completed the survey helped me immensely. I completed the dissertation, was awarded the degree and later worked the paper up for publication. It’s not a heraldry paper, per se. It’s actually a study of the way that people learn in informal, online communities such as this. It’s just been published and you can read the abstract at: http://www.wwwords.co.uk/ELEA/content/pdfs/11/issue11_3.asp If you want to read the paper, see if you have access to it through an institutional membership in a database. If you don’t, let me know via e-mail (heraldry at boven dot us) and I’ll send you a copy. Thanks again for all those who helped.
Best,
Dave
Done..
David,
The only publications I can find on Google Scholar are your 2009 paper, "American Universities’ Departure from the Academic Costume Code" cited in two other publications (twice as many citations than I have!*), and the "The Next Game Changer: The Historical Antecedents of the MOOC Movement in Education," E-learning papers, 33, 1-7.

It looks like Google Scholar was a little slow getting things updated. The new article is now listed.
