That would be up to the board if they wanted to petition Lyon. I dont think so because it would be tough at this time financially.

I will pass this issue on to a friend of mine who is an expert in the field and get his view on it.

What qualifies one as an "expert"?

I think many of us know Scott MacMillan. There’s no reason to be coy.
There is where you are wrong it is not Scott but he has seen these arms. I have more than a few professional heralds as friends.

OK, then Romilly Squire. Or whoever. Without knowing who it is and what makes him (or her) an expert on the particular issue at hand, none of the rest of us can judge whether his/her advice is worth listening to. There are professionals out there who are enormously expert in producing heraldic art and know relatively little about the rules and customs of heraldry. There are people who are expert in the rules of a particular place and a particular time who are blissfully unaware that those rules don’t apply at all times and all places.
There are even actual, practicing, honest-to-God heralds who couldn’t produce an elegant, artistic coat of arms if their lives (or livelihoods) depended on it.
So adducing anonymous experts as the final word on any heraldic matter doesn’t cut much ice.
I will freely give his name once he gives me permission to.
After some discussion we have decided to go with the original mantling and helm that I used. I should have stuck with that in the first place.
So this one?

What did you decide for the crest?
Yes with the crest and motto added.
The crest will be the lion holding the two flags.
Here is the adjusted version. The motto change was suggested by another friend, Iain Sherwood.

I noticed recently in Mark Dennis’s exccellent booklet on Scottish Heralrdy, the arms of the Tuscallousa St AndrewsSociety—roughly per pa;e (dimidiated) the Scottish St Andrew’a flag & the Albama state flag with spme added foliage. The proposal above (per fess wavy) seems like a nice neighborly nod in that firection, but clearly not infringing.
