Congrats to Andy Murray winning the championship at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC), Wimbledon, whose attractive coat of arms and badge were granted in 1992.

Not sable, but purpure, although the image doesn’t show it very well except on the backing of the motto scroll.

I have to say that having spent the afternoon enthralled by the match, I fully expect Andy Murray - who already has supporters aplenty - will become eligible for a front facing helm on top of any arms he may be persuaded to seek.

Not really heraldry but having, in my student days when I lived in Wimbledon, raised some revenue by working quite a number of years on the groundstaff during the summer months and rolled, mowed, lined and netted the Centre Court many times, I tend to feel a certain share in the ownership of the grass. Fred Perry used to come and give the groundstaff a party and free drinks at the end of each tournament, chatting to each and every one of us. That was 40 years ago. It is nearly as long since Virgina Wade’s centenary victory and it has been a long time waiting for something to celebrate as a Brit. So well done Andy - even if you end up getting your arms from Lyon KoA, today you are an honorary Englishman.

Almost.  The LPs are reproduced on p 74 of Gwynn-Jones & Paston-Bedingfeld’s Heraldry (1993).  The tennis ball was blazoned as "a Roundel Or thereon a Bendlet sinister nebuly of one undulation upwards Purpure".

And no one has yet mentioned the compartment of a tennis court, or the crest or supporters.

Okay, I’ll comment on the crest - the hands are turned the wrong way. The backs of the hands should be displayed not the palms!

For clarification, can someone tell me whose arms are pictured in post #1?  Andy Murray was born in 1987, which makes it seem unlikely that arms were granted to him when he was 5…

I believe those would be the arms of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC), Wimbledon and not those of Mr. Murray.

Thanks for the information.  I’m a little dense.
