While I’m on the theme of residential colleges, Rice University in Houston has also adopted this system of housing.  Some good arms, some not so good.

Brown College

Hanszen College

Two versions of the same design are out there.  Unfortunately, I think the one with the tincture violation is the official one.  The second is from Wikipedia, the first from the Rice website.  Make the field of the large shield white and they’re in good shape.

To be continued.

More from Rice:

Jones College (if this were mine, I’d only make it available in little tiny form as well)

Lovett College (another one perhaps best left small—no idea what’s on the shield, but it looks like there’s a metal-on-metal violation for sure in 2&3.)

Martel College

Some potential, but ultimately rather Penn-ish.

Will Rice College

(Totally off the heraldic rails.)

The last couple are back on track.

And to close things out:

Sid Richardson College.

Wiess College:

(Too bad the image is so small and not in full color:  The arms are Per fess Sable and Or a griffin segreant counterchanged.  Very nice.)

And a little bonus, it looks like the Rice Graduate Students Association also has rather nice arms, but I haven’t been able to find an image that’s definitely in full color:

Section 1

The device or coat of arms representing the GSA shall be a green field charged with seven conjoined white lozenges, with a white chief bearing a red book, with seven gold seals and gold edging, between two black grackles. A banner depicting this device shall be used at formal events of the association and the university.

Section 2

The mascot of the association shall be the black grackle.

Section 3

The official colors of the association shall be green and white.

Section 4

The motto of the association shall be bonis avibus, literally "(under) good birds," referring to the association’s mascot. The phrase signified favorable omens to ancient Romans and is a reflection of the association’s perseverance and optimism in all seasons.
