If it weren’t for the Marine Corps emblem and number 7, I’d say this one was OK.

Well look and weep the "Coat of Arms" of the USS Jackson (LCS 6).

Perhaps, but to include the namesake’s decorations its not ok with me. They belong to the Man and not the Ship named for him, which has to earn its own.

Can’t argue with you there.

The LCS Program has so many difficulties… it surprises me not it’s arms are problematic…

I agree the John Glenn should not be using the individual’s decorations - they could have easily made the capsule Or and left the USMC and "7" off… the swords are a nice touch and obviously USMC swords… <sigh>

I was focusing on the shield - I agree the decorations should not have been included

Personal opinions, others may differ:I rather like the USS Glenn arms - a little busy, but interesting.  The USMC emblem & numeral 7 is IMO a minor enough element in an otherwise interesting design, & not inappropriate on this case.

As to the USS Jackson, ‘nuff said.

The blazon for the Montgomery IMO is faulty - "Argent (silver grey)" and "Argent" shown as white, in the same blazon - really??

IIRC there is a German term for iron-colored which, while rarely used in English, would IMO be better than Fifty Shades of Grey… they could (should) keep the parenthetical translation into English after the German word.

How about, if someone’s going to use gray, they blazon it as….

Gray!

Using a German word or a French word doesn’t mitigate the heraldic sin, it just adds hypocrisy to the mix.

Joe’s idea is clearly better.

Or maybe they could call it Sable Celeste?  And for designs reflacting light green hillsides with dark green trees, Vert and Vert Celeste?  smile

(Sorry, late night with a bit too much Zinfandel… OK, maybe more that a bit…)
