They could probably triple their membership by including descendants of the Mexican veterans of the war.
But seriously, this is quite interesting.
Great great grandfather, Pvt. Edward Malone, Sr., Co. "H", 1st Regt., Alabama Militia, served in the Mexican War. Don’t know if he got to Mexico? I applied to join, but never heard from the organizatiion again. Malone is buried Trinity Episcopal, Galveston. He was a Lt. in his brother-in-law Capt. Henry VanBuren, CSA’s "Rio Grande Volunteer Light Artillery"; also known as "VanBuren’s Battery", and the "Galveston Battery". It’s cannon fron the dufunct Texas Republic Navy. It helped capture the Union vessell "Star in the West". On my wall is an in uniform photo of Capt. Edward Malone, Sr., CSA, Co. F, 24th Ala. Inf.; twice wounded. Great great grandfather Robrert Wm. James, was civilian master of the Army transport "Gen. Hamer" out of New Orleans in the Mexican War. Don’t think civilian service, even in combat, counts? Jim Miller

I wonder if this shield has tinctures.
Good example of a US CoA… busy as a bee.
