As the Father just pointed out, that version was paid for handsomely with membership dues.  And as I recall it was the version that the membership voted on to use on the website.  I don’t see how we can move away from using it without another vote.  Shouldn’t the membership have a say in whether it goes or stays?

Don’t fret.  We’ll try several headings.  In the haste to get things up and running, less thought has been invested in some details.

As for the emblazonment:  see http://americanheraldry.org/

Michael-

I don’t quite know if it’s just me or what, but the forum website will not allow me to log out. I don’t know how much of an issue that is, or if anyone else is effected this way ... just thought I’d mention it.

The logout problem is now fixed.

Thanks to Michael and all concerned for getting the forum back online so promptly.

One suggestion, is it possible to have a temporary link on the old forum index page. It would help people like me who bookmarked the old URL to know where they should go now.

I would like to add my voice concerning the arms. I simply prefer the Kurov version (for which we paid a tidy sum as I recall).

However, while I agree that only one artistic version of any given coat of arms does not have to be the only one used it isn’t a good idea to use various versions of the same arms on the same website. Rather, I think it is a better idea to use one uniform artistic rendering of the society’s arms on the whole of the website. Other versions could be used for things like the masthead of the hardcopy newsletter or letterhead for the society, etc.

Actually, I agree with Fr. Guy that we should present a consistent graphic image (and I see that Mike has made the change), but, for the record, I don’t recall ever voting on which emblazonment should appear on the website.  In fact, I don’t ever recall a membership vote on whether to commission Mr. Kurov to prepare the emblazonment in the first place.  Perhaps we did have a general vote, but my recollection is that the decision was made by the board of directors at the time—which was and is exactly the right way to have done it.

I agree, it has come together quite nicely! But there is either a problem with the quick reply (although there is a distinct possibility that I am just dumb and can’t figure it out wink

You’ll have to edit your user profile by entering your real name and your registration control number.  The prompts are self-explanatory and are new anti-spam features, courtesy of Michael Swanson, I.T. Genius Extaordinare.
