I was thinking about this a lot today Everrett. At first I was not sure how you were going to pull this off, but I think you will be able to. It is very interesting. Please keep us updated on your progress. I’m very interested in how you finish this all. Thanks.
OT—- Hugh – my bad – good luck when it comes up!
I talked with Rich tonight and this is what we’ve come up with so far… It is still very much in the works and he is very enthusiastic…

Azure, semy of blind eyes proper, in chief argent a sun rising Gules and set for a crest on a wreath of the colors two swords Argent in saltier, hilted and pommelled Gules surmounted by a third sword Argent in pale, hilted and pommelled Azure impaling a Sun in it’s Splendor with closed eyes Gules
He really wanted to stay with the blind eyes but I think it is because I didn’t do a very good job of explaining the pellets (bullets?) and the difficulty of rendering/displaying the eyes. I’m sure there will be more to come on that front. I would really like to know what everyone thinks of the crest and the chief, do they work? I think they do… but then, I’m bias…
I am not keen on the use of the blind eye.
What about using a Golden Labrador in a guide dog harness as the crest? I think that would not only depict your friends disability but also the work he does to help others.
His arms then could then could be charged to suit other aspects of his life, name and/or genealogy etc.
Pellets are sable roundels, or black circles. Maybe you could use plates, which are argent roundels, or silver circles.
I do like that chief, tho.
Thought I would do a Guide Dog Crest just to see what it looked like.
I really like those, John. Especially the guide dogs.
I rather like the design combining the sun & the blind eyes. As a minor variant, how about the sun within an orle of eyes? Not sure if the symbolism would be a immediately clear, but the design visually (or by feel if carved or embossed) would be a bit simpler—the sun & eyes wouldn’t get in each others way.
And the braille motto is an inspiration!
So, it’s been a month. Everett: what’s happened with the arms? Inquiring minds wanna know!!!!
How about an eye patch. Or a closed eye. Or dark glasses. A white cane.
