A belt, with a wolf head for a buckle?
A wolf head erased encircled by such a belt.
A black wolf head erased on a bezant.
A wolf head erased and a human head erased, conjoined at the back of their heads.

David, by werewolf head are you thinking something like the attached picture? If so, that’s unfortunately the opposite of what I want. I’m attempting to show the old werewolf legends, not the Hollywood version.
When I see pictures of the Hollywood Wolfman, I think of the Mexican Wolf Boys: http://www.mexicancircus.com/wolfboys.htm
I actually had some sort of Medieval version of the werewolf in mind when I suggested the werewolf’s head erased.
Whatever charge or charges you do use, I seriously doubt that it will be easily recognised by the vast majority of people unless it is a stereotypical Hollywood werewolf.
I am curious as to what attracts you to the werewolf? It could be that there is another monster in heraldry that could fill the role much easier or some object or objects that could express what you desire to convey in this badge.
As has been said before, I think your best bet is to just go with a wolf (either a head, full body, or a wolf gorged with a belt, or something like that) since that’s the closest I think you’ll be able to get to a werewolf.
I’m going to try and scan some sketches of ideas for you tomorrow if I have time. I’ll contact you by PM when I have.
At first, what you described reminded me of an American Indian Wolf Spirit (check out these three sites):

In looking for a good picture of this (which I really couldn’t find), I was interested to see that the Romans had something similar. The Roman Vexillarius carried the banners of the Legion; his "robe of office" was apparently included a wolf’s skin wrap:

I like the idea of a human head erased wearing a wolf skin wrap. (But then, what do I know?)
What about basing it off of something like Anubis
Wow, ask and ye shall receive. I truly appreciate all the input.

I like this idea, I’ll have to give it some thought.

True. I’ll probably have to live with that.

Hard to say, the image just strikes a chord with me, very particularly those German tales. Another beast just wouldn’t do.

You may be right. Right now I’m leaning toward just a wolf, but barry like the Hessen lion. And thank you very much for offering to do a visual.

Hmm, very good imagery, but I’d probably avoid it as I have no American Indian ancestors. Although I suppose it could just as well be a Viking thing as Michael pointed out earlier.

That’s not a bad suggestion either. Somewhat similar to Daniel’s satyr-like suggestion from earlier.
Does anyone have a good source of heraldry-style human clipart? I haven’t found much of anything on the web.
Again many thanks for the suggestion.
PS: I’m leaving tomorrow for the coast, so I’ll probably not be answering much this weekend.
Cheers.
Found this today!

Pretty much exactly what I think of when I think of a werewolf mid-transformation.
Now if could just find some good "human" clipart.
Also some light reading
Maybe….........

Very cool. Similar to one of the ideas Daniel shared w/ me.
I like Michael’s graphic. But even though the idea of two conjoined heads is unique, I’m still not sure it conveys the idea werewolf. Having seen from the woodcut what you were trying to portray earlier with your wolf with human hands graphic, why don’t you go with not just human hands but full arms as in the wood cut. Maybe you can go with the howling wolf design in that attachment, but modified so that the two front legs are be human arms… sort of like how they would look when a human tries to imitate a gorilla walking on all four. I think that would be the best way to convey werewolf. The howling dog-like animal clearly says wolf and the arms say human with the belt around the neck alluding to what you said earlier about wolf belts.
For a New World spin on this, there’s the were-jaguar. Would be interesting to use for someone with Olmec ancestry.

You picked a hard theme….
I like the wolf bracelet below. I think it can be turned into a belt.

Indeed, it is a tricky one. I think this is pretty much the direction I’ll be going. It makes the most sense if you think about it, because if this is a sea-lion
http://www.heraldica.org/topics/glossary/pics/279.jpg
and this is a sea-horse
http://www.eaudrey.com/myth/images/seahorse.gif
then surely a creature that has the top half of a wolf, and the lower half of a man would be a Were-Wolf (literally man-wolf).
So, the blazon?
The lower half of a man conjoined above the waist to a demi-wolf?
A wolf dimidiated below the waist by a man?
Thanks again to everybody for their help.
In the same vein, Kevin, prehaps he should be called a "wolf-man" and just leave it there.
Or perhaps, "an heraldic wolf-man". If nothing else, that’ll confuse EVERYBODY! :D
