The American Inns of Court are losely modeled on the four Inns of Court in London.  Too bad their choice of COA is so uninspired.

Oh… this is rather awful. Hopefully this will be improved in the future!

It seems to me that whoever designed this COA thought of heraldry as a different type of corporate logo.  :(

Has anyone tried to contact the American Inns of Court and explain to them the nature of heraldry?  Perhaps someone could design a new coat of arms and offer it to the Inns.  The new design might borrow from George Washington’s arms and perhaps charges from the arms of the Inns of court in England symbolizing the professional connection between the American Inn & their English predecessors/inspiration.  Perhaps someone in this group can turn this situation from an opportunity lost to an opportunity found.  It’s just a thought….

The combined coat of arms for the four English Inns of Court can be found at:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inns_of_Court.  The arms of George Washington can be found in our own Presidential series:  http://americanheraldry.org/pages/index.php?n=President.Washington.  Now can somebody with some artistic talent somehow create a new coat of arms for the American Inns of Court and then offer the design to them?  Perhaps millrinds which seem to be used by the US Navy JAG corp can be included in the chief of George Washington’s Coat of Arms.

Maybe for the crest the American Inns of Court could have a millrind emerging from a coronet and the raven (corbie or cough) sitting atop the millrind.  This would combine elements of George Washington’s arms with a (traditional) symbol of the legal profession.
