Fr. Selvester, I have thought about it a couple of days now and I am still not sure. Maybe I am biased against it because I had seen it as a logo first. But, I can’t escape the fact that it is in fact nothing more than a logo on a shield, which is in my book – not of much consequence for anything really – not good heraldry. Maybe if I had seen it on arms first and then to a logo, but I don’t know because I never seen it that way. I saw it as it was: logo imposed on a shield. I just can’t get that outta my head. Plus I am still not sold on the blazon. I can’t point to what about it I don’t like exactly, but it feels like a blazon that is trying to fit a logo on a shield … being forced if you will. I’m sorry I could not give a better answer to your questions. Either way it is still a very attractive logo.

Joe, I agree. I think that would be worse than supporters.

When it comes to your position on Obama’s logo/shield, I see your opinion very clearly. I just stand on the other side of the fence. Like I said and as you agreed - I think it’s appropriate to create a shield design based on a momentous occasion in one’s life. An adaptation of an important symbol (perhaps of that occasion) is also acceptable and done by many people, even here at AHS. The Obama logo doesn’t break any heraldic rules and can be blazoned as pointed out in previous posts. Where I would draw the line is just how you described - slapping the logo on a shield. His logo is round - The Obama "O." If they had just put that on a roundel in the middle of a shield… then I would have a problem with it. By all means - disagree, but let’s not go back and forth on this.
