OMW! You’re right, Jay! I’m so embarrassed. Where did I ever get the idea that the word "whereas" was peppered in the UN Preamble? Nevertheless, it doesn’t change my opinion that the word "whereas" doesn’t need to be peppered in official documents.

I hope you don’t mind me using this one, WB, but it was the only one I could find online.
Take care,

"Laws of Arms" like "Laws of Football" and "Laws of Cricket"—the rules by which the game of heraldry is played.
This, of course invites unfavorable comparisons with the relative power of heraldic authorities on the one hand and FIFA and the MCC on the other within their respective realms. One might also point to the respect for the spirit of the game, beyond obedience to the laws, expected of cricketers, and ask whether that, rather than haggling about what the rules are or should be, might be a better model for heraldists.

Maybe "armorial custom in these United States of America" would be more apt factually, while preserving the ceremonious tone.

That closing line in the ACH certificate about the affixing of the seal always makes me think I’ve unsuspectingly walked into a wedding: "... in the sight of God, and in the face of this company…"

... if the ACH director and ACH board make a mistake in blazoning or don’t catch usurpation, then one can always blame the almighty witness….
For comparison here is the text of an IAAH certificate (arms designed by IAAH and assumed by the armiger). http://www.herbarz.net/Lucki/mccarthy armorial FINAL.pdf
George—other than Mike Swanson’s USHR, yours is the least "Shakespearian" so far…and the artwork is IMO very nice!
I finished up the document last week. Here is the final product. I’m sure it’s no better than the first draft for those who prefer less "legalistic" language, but its primary use will be as a wall decoration.
Dear Jay,
nice document!
BTW, here are some Russian samples as done by the Guild of heraldic artists. The Guild it is not mentioned however in the document, the armiger being the sole authority for the creation of the arms.
