I hesitate to even post this under heraldry for the time being, but I came across a very interesting photo of the monument to the late President of Turkmenistan, Saparmurat Niyazov.

Is there a historical heraldic basis for these five-headed fellas, or were our Turkmen friends being creative?
Incidentally, it looks as if our five-headed eagle has found himself(selves) a nice two-headed snake!
This bird is the current Presidential emblem in Turkmenistan (the national emblem consisting of a horse, a series of traditional ornamental rug patterns and the Moslem crescent, surrounded in a post-Soviet way with ears and other plants and placed over a rectangular eight-pointed star). Allegedly the five-headed eagle is derived from the ancient tribal symbolism of the time of Oguz Khan and Togrul Khan (whose name "Togrul" corresponds to a mythical bird "who slays thousand geese to eat one"), although in reality it is a retrospective modern creation intended to reflect the five original "branches" of the nation.
