So it sometimes seems, though I presume you would agree with the assertion that the number of believers in a faith has absolutely no bearing on the correctness of the tenets of that faith.

True. But I also believe that the inclination to assume pompous and pretentious trappings at the inception of a tradition does bear on the likelihood of the correctness of its tenets—negatively.
