Just for fun a while ago I decided to paint a “Colorado State Coat of Arms,” which of course does not really exist. We do have a seal with heraldic motifs, but not an actual coat of arms. Here’s a link to what the seal is: http://www.colorado.gov/dpa/doit/archives/history/symbemb.htm#Seal

Here’s what I did with an imagined coat of arms using some basic, proper heraldic practices and the already existing heraldic motifs:

I know I’m biased in this case, but I think this is an improvement on the "heraldic" motifs as mentioned by the State on the URL provided above. That being said, if I were to ever design a coat of arms for Colorado I would not use Or, I would use Gules (ref our name) and Argent (ref the silver mining that was the key for this state - not gold), use a Colorado Ram (Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep - state animal) and a Lark Bunting (state bird) as supporters, and a crest that would be a castle wall (ref Spanish heritage of Colorado) and an early American fort wall (pioneering USA heritage of Colorado) simply joined in the middle, keep both mottos we currently have, and go from there. But, that will never happen and in this case I just tried to combine both and hoped for the best.

Feel free to opine on this as it is just a fanciful/make believe coat of arms and my feelings won’t get hurt by blasting it to bits. 8)
