The Pershing Rifles originates in 1891 when the then 2nd Lt John Pershing becom Professor of Military Science and Tactis at Nebraska University. To improve the standing of the University ROTC he formed a select company which in 1894 become the Pershing Rifles. By 1917 the organisation had declined and was disbanded only to be reborn in 1920 with rapid growth and to day are represented at over 40 Colleges and Univeristies across the US. The Torch is a symbol of Readiness and the Rifles of the Military Carracter. The Crest consists of a Chameleon as a symbol of the tri-service aspect of the fraternity. The Helmet is a symbol of Chivalry of the Medival Knigths (strange that they chosed an ancient Greek Helmet to represent that).
