At a high school track meet yesterday, I saw a small coat of arms on the tablet placed at the dedication of the Flippin [yes, really] Field House of Episcopal HS, a old-line boys’ prep school in Alexandria, Va. I think it was about 20 years old, give or take, and I’ve never seen the arms used in any other context, but as they are in the school’s colors, I assume they are (or were) the school’s arms:
Or on a bend engrailed Gules cotised Sable between two crosses bottony Gules, three fleurs-de-lis Or.
The crest is some sort of a griffin Gules armed Or, but the lower part had been worn or scratched away, so not sure if issuant from something, rampant, or what.
Nice arms: I’m guessing a product of Col. Harry Temple, who produced a lot of arms of Episcopal institutions around here.
The Flippin Field House????
That’s TOO funny! I laughed for 5 minutes!
