Hello,

I’ve recently become interested in heraldry. I’ve since learned the rules regarding who actually has a right to use a particular coat of arms. I’ve yet to find any ancestral arms to which I have any rights, but I was wondering, is it appropriate to break entirely from past tradition and design entirely new arms? Is this appropriate sometimes, and others not?

I’ve tried searching all over the internet, but can’t seem to find the rules or principles on this.
