As I mentioned in an earlier thread, I’ve been thinking about a tweak to my arms and would appreciate advice. Of course, many of you have already said that I should stick with what I have. But here it is anyway.
My current blazons are:
- Purpure, ten Eastern Crowns Or one, three, two, three, and one
- En campo de púrpura, diez coronas orientales de oro puestas una, tres, dos, tres y una
A lovely example is above on my avatar, and below on my signature line. The current arrangement was inspired by the flag of Murcia in Spain. When I saw that the ten crowns I wanted, arranged in such a way formed a star of David, I was sold. But the arrangement of rows has no special meaning for my family. Only the number of crowns.
What I’d consider changing is the position of the crowns, nothing more. Basically I’d allow them to fall into the default position, without the rows. The only benefit would be a more traditional look for my shield.
It would look something like the below.

Potential future blazons:
- Purpure, ten Eastern Crowns Or
- En campo de púrpura, diez coronas
Simple as pie.
Rest assured that I will make no hasty decisions, but the thought has been bouncing around in my head and it would continue to do so unless I kick it out there for the world to see.
I’d appreciate everyone’s opinion on this idea.
I like your present one better, the position of the crowns just looks better
How’s this ... wait until you find out if you’re having a boy or a girl. The current arrangement will look much better than the new proposal on a lozenge if it’s a girl.
For what it’s worth, though, I agree with Ton. The current arrangement is more pleasing to my eye.
How about not specifying the arrangement? Then they can be arrayed in any way that suits the shape of the shield or lozenge: 4-3-2-1, 3-3-3-1, 3-2-3-2, whatever.
I like the current arrangement in your avatar better. It’s more appealing to the eye, and fills the shield better.
i like Joe’s suggestion best. this will give you a variety of depictions in your future emblazons.

Even better!

That’s exactly what I was trying to convey.
Future blazons:
- Purpure, ten Eastern Crowns Or
- En campo de púrpura, diez coronas orientales de oro
However, unsure how such a blazon would typically be portrayed.

I must learn to read all the posts!

I suspect that most heraldic artists coming out of the English-Scottish tradition would be inclined to put them 4-3-2-1, like bowling pins, on a heater-shaped shield, and that those coming out of the Iberian tradition would likely opt either for 3-3-3-1, perhaps even 2-2-2-2-2. Maybe our Spanish colleagues can comment.
I certainly agree that your current arrangement is better and it "works" for me. Why change for the sake of change? Arms should only change if there is a really really really good reason, and even then you should think twice.
