I thought the forum might like this.

I am carving the master to make the mould for my crest.

Wow, that is tiny!

Is that pine wood you’re using? Also, how do you intend to make the mold?

Please keep the updates coming on this, too cool!

The wood is bass wood. Just cheap stuff you can find at a craft store. Its not balsa wood though. There is a huge difference. I am looking to buy some mold making RTV material that you mix up and pour over it to make the mold. then I will be casting them out of pewter. I have a circlet already made for behind and will be making a back for a plaid brooch. I am thinking of doing a lozenge shape brooch for my wife.

I’m looking forward to following your progress. This is something I know nothing about, and am finding is fascinating.

Man these are amazing!  You, along with everyone else on the forum, are so talented.  I can’t wait to see the finished products.

The end result is really great. I sometimes wish my talents extended to such physical art. Is the feather removable? I’ve read that they are often a nuisance and most designs make them optional so you aren’t always bothered by them.

After some kind suggestions I have adjusted the feather and I think it turned out quite nice!

My feather will not be removable but I will be casting:

the crest

the crest and criclet

and the crest, circlet, and feather.

So I will have 3 seperate bonnet badges that I can use.

The work is really outstanding, Harold. The one improvement I think it could use is a border around the outer and inner edges of the circlet. I think it will make it look just a little more "finished."

Will you be including a motto on the criclet?

I had thought about doing a border but it would be dificult to do the way I have it set up now.

I was not going to include my motto (raised) but I may have thought about having it engraved on one of them in the future. If I find a good engraver here locally then I may have some more extensive engraving done on one.
