In the Book Admiralty Badges av TP Stopford, there are mentioned of the Pegasus as a Symbol of the US Navy Air Forces. That in conjunction with the Pegasus being included in a few Fleet Air Arm Squadrons’ Badges to symbolise that they where raised in the US during the World War II at US Navy Air Stations and with US Aircraft like Hellcat and Wildcat ect.

One example is No 846 Sqn, formed at NAS Quonset Point, RI in 1943. Is had the following badge approved in 1944:

"Blue; over barry wavy of six white and blue a man proper helmeted red holding in the sinister hand a sword gold and mounted on a Pegasus white attacking a sea serpent proper langued red."

Motto: Semper instans = Always threatening.

Another example No 853 Sqn, formed at NAS Squantum, Mass. in 1943 as a torpedo-bomber-reconnaissance with Grumman Avengers (note the allusion to this Aircraft in the Motto). The Sqn was disbanded in 1945.

Badge approved in 1944: "Blue; mounted on a Pegasus forceny a Greek warrior armed with spear and a shield all gold."

Motto: Defend, avenge.

Now this is the first instance I hear that the Pagasus should be a special symbol relating to US Navy flying, so can any one confirm this link?
