I am wanting to design another badge, this time an animal badge to go along with my "plant badge" (A cross erminée Or between four oak leaves in saltire Azure).

When I was considering changing my crest I stumbled along the idea of a snowy stag.  I like the idea and almost went with it for my crest but decided to stick with the falcon.  The idea of the snowy stag stuck with me as a potential badge.

I think I have the color combination set.  I want a white stag semy of blue snowflakes with gold antlers and hooves.  The only real question is the posture.  I have been considering three possibilities for posture and would like to solicit input.

Here are the designs I am considering:

1. A stag trippant Argent semy of snowflakes Azure unguled and attired Or.

2. A stag lodged Argent semy of snowflakes Azure unguled and attired Or.

3. A stag sejant Argent semy of snowflakes Azure unguled and attired Or.

The only other question is whether to have the stag reguardant in the trippant or lodged versions.

Does anyone have any thoughts?  I am leaning more in the direction of lodged or sejant at the moment.  Not so sure about the reguardant posture for the head.  Any input is welcome!

I, for reasons not even known to myself, am a huge fan of the stag in heraldry and I much prefer him in the trippant attitude. I think reguardant works well if he is supporting some sort of staff or banner, but probably not standing alone.

I’m a trippant or Lodged fan - always considered them, "stag-like"

Congratulations Kathy!  That was your 1,000th post.

For the stag, I like trippant the best.

Kathy,

That is a very good point.  I have done a lot of deer hunting in my day and I’ve seen a lot of deer but I don’t seem to recall ever seeing one sitting down in the sejant posture.  I guess that puts me back to trippant or lodged.

Decisions, decisions!

P.S. I join Jesse in wishing you congratulations on your 1,000th post!

OK - so just go ahead and point out that I "chat" too much!

I’m glad they don’t rate em by appropriateness or relevancy!

Another vote—obviously self-serving!—for the trippant stag.
