I have been insanely busy for the past few months (no end in sight!), and have not been able to keep up with the forum. I did succeed, however, in completing a design for Dr. William Bobowicz, a knight of the Holy Sepulcher.

Dr. Bobowicz was a great client to work with. He had good ideas, but was also eager to learn and willing to take advice. He proposed the three fish, because he liked the way they combine both Christic and Trinitarian symbolism.

The shell with the Jerusalem Cross to the right of the helm is not a personal badge, but is the Pilgrim Shell awarded to members of the Order who make the pilgrimage to Jerusalem to pray at the tomb of Christ. The shells in the arms allude to his pilgrimage.

I blazoned the arms as follows: Sable three Fish embowed interlaced Or chapé-ployè Or two Escallops Sable and for a Crest upon a Helm mantled Sable doubled Or with a Wreath of the colors Three Fish embowed interlaced Or.

I encouraged Dr. Bobowicz to visit our website, to get a feel for what more talented artists might do with his arms. I hope he stops by.

Does the Order of the Holy Sepulcher have "offical" heralds?

No, they do not. There are rules for the display of their insignia, but no one to enforce them.

This is fantastic. It has an art deco thing going on that gives it character.

These are excellent arms Fr. Dohrman. At first I thought the scallop shells in his arms alluded to a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela as the scallop is also the emblem of St. James and worn by pilgrims.

Very nice work. It’s funny how similar it is to the design I did a year ago for a priest I know. Fr. Auro Arms

Yes, I too noticed that. I had just completed this design when you posted Fr. Auro’s arms. Great minds…!

While there are many talented artists on the forum, do not underestimate the value of your great ability to design arms that are relatively simple in the number of charges, colors and divisions as well as unique and highly attractive.
