What do you think?*

*And yes, I mean it the way Joe meant it in the TVSS thread.

I think less cells in a hexagon/octagon shape, in order to fill the space better.

Or, alternatively, more cells. I would also make the chain where all links are visible as in this illustration by John Gaylor of the soon-to-be arms of the International Register. Conceptually, though, it’s quite nice.

I like it, but would also reduce the number of hexagons to seven (one central conected to six around).

I can only recall seeing hexagons used in heraldry once before

nicely done!

Kenneth and David and Steven,

I like those ideas for the honeycomb, but they failed the "fridge test." My wife killed the "big hexagon" idea by saying it look like I was forcing it. I agreed.  Then, she destroyed the "snowflake pattern" by pointing out that it in fact looked like a yellow snowflake.  You married people will understand.

I’d like to try the chain idea, Kenneth, but I can’t draw that!

Joke I heard at the Renaissance Faire:

Q: Why don’t heralds pun?

A: They can’t.
