Arms of Bishop-Elect Peter Brown, CSsR of Samoa-Pago Pago who will be ordained and installed on Aug. 22.

The arms are loosely based on the American Samoa flag but the bald eagle is replaced with the Manumea, bird native to Samoa and to the bishop’s native Greymouth, NZ. It holds a native fly-wisk and the staff the eagle holds in the flag of American Samoa. The triquetra is an allusion to the Holy Family and the cross and symbols of the passion are from the arms of the Redemptorist Order of which the bishop is a member. The motto means, "It is God who makes all things new".

The arms were designed by me and Richard d’Apice of Australia and rendered by Sandy Turnbull also of Australia.

I Like it, shows how one doesn’t need to overload the Shield to show multisided symbolism.

The arms are nice—but even nicer in the greater scheme of things, is seeing several recent examples of new episcopal arms designed by those who actually have a good working knowledge of heraldry and especially the ability to distinguish between "enough" and "too much."  Kudos!

a future impalement might leave the charges rather squished

The bishop is already an Ordinary and has chosen not to impale his arms.
