Some of the members here who belong to various heraldry groups on FB will
have seen this already, but for those who have not, I thought I’d share my version of the arms of Paul Lindsay of Brisbane, Australia, just finalized. Paul has commissioned some interesting variations on his arms from a variety of internationally active heraldic artists. Paul is an entomologist with diverse interests including vexillology and Australian country music.
I won’t post the lengthy blazon at this time, but it’s available on request.
Very nice work.
Very nice indeed!
For those of us (yeah, me.. :( ) who are FB challenged, how & where might we find the relevant FB sites?
Thanks!
Awe inspiring emblazonment David!!!
My thanks to all. One place to start on Facebook would be
https://www.facebook.com/groups/int.herald/
This is the FB group page for the International Heraldry Society. They have kindly included me among their listing of heraldic artists at their website.
FB also has the group pages of the Heraldry Round Table, Heraldry Today, the Heraldry Society, etc.
this is very nice I like it a lot!!
Nicely done, David! Michael, we’ll see you out there in the trenches!
Poking (stumbling) around in Facebook, I also found the Court of the Lord Lyon and Anthony Maxwell Heraldic Illustrator, both with a number of beautiful examples of Scottish heraldic artwork.
Splendid emblazonment, David! Michael, you’re on Facebook?
Yes, since last week. After an initial friending of extended family and resultant message overload, I’m not adding more friends until I figure out how to manage the traffic. :(
There’s a guitar on the dog
There’s a dog on the pillow
There’s a pillow on the mantle
There’s a mantle on the helm
There’s a helm on the shield
And on the shield at the bottom there’s a bug!
Put a bird on the guitar wearing a hat and you almost have a winning children’s song!
I forgot to add that I really like your artwork. Very nice.
Thanks. The armiger is a country music fan; he might like your lyrics too.
His design / blazon was developed with the assistance of IAAH. I just joined in with those folks who were asked to render Paul’s arms, but my dog and bug seem to be quite popular, for which I’m thankful. I think this blazon calls for a bit more detail in the crest than is usually the case.

I’d be interested in seeing the blazon. I’m curious how that particular know is described. Are you able to share any details on the reason for the elements? It’s always interesting to me to know what’s behind the symbolism. Why that particular knot, or that particular bug, and the reasons, if any for the colors and patterns.
Hopefully David can share the intended symbolism of the knot and bug, which should be personal to Paul Lindsay and/or his family.
The red field and the blue and white checkered fess, standing alone, are the arms of the chief of the Name & Arms of Lindsay (a Scottish clan). In Scotland new arms for someone bearing the surname of an existing family usually reflect in some way the arms of that family, but with sufficient differences to show there is no known (documented) blood relationship—this is called "indeterminate cadency" as opposed to "determinate cadency" for members of the chiefly lineage which usually follow a more or less standard pattern based largely on bordures (Apologies if TMI). Those with Scottish roots living elsewhere frequently follow the "indeterminate cadency" model, as Paul Lindsay has done.

On your newsfeed.. when you see things you are generally not interested in (or posts from people you’d rather not have fed to you, but can go check in on..)
Each item, in the upper right corner has a drop down where there are choices not to see those items on your feed. I have several friends from HS and such who I no longer see on my feed, but just go check in on their pages now and then.. (when you’re ready, feel free to friend me and you can ask direct questions and get some walk through help - I do it for people all the time.. )
