For those who are members of the HSS, be on the lookout for the new issue of The Double Tressure, which contains an article by our friend Seb Nelson on the arms of Diego de Vargas, Spanish governor of New Mexico in the late 17th/early 18th centuries and a major figure in the history of that state.
I have drawn the arms as reported in Seb’s article and uploaded them in our roll of early American arms, http://www.americanheraldry.org/pages/index.php?n=Roll.v
Perhaps he will be able to post an image of the much finer painting of the arms by Carlos Navarro, which illustrates the article.

Shouldn’t the checky shoes in the third quarter look like this?

Thanks for the kind words! I’ll ask Carlos if he will allow me to post the image…I’ve been enjoying the original artwork on the wall of my apartment for a while :p
Here is a link to an article by Dexter Zavalza Hough-Snee about Vargas’ will and inventory of estate: http://www.academia.edu/4949198/Library_Luxury_and_Loot_The_Inventory_of_the_Estate_of_don_Diego_de_Vargas_Zapata_Luján_Ponce_de_León_Marqués_de_la_Nava_Bracinas._Santa_Fe_New_Mexico_20_April_1704
...see page four of the article for items owned by Vargas engraved with his arms (page 8 of the inventory).
