I have been playing with the use of my crest, A demi-fox rampant Sable collared raguly Gules fimbriated Argent holding a broad-ax erect Gules, as a holder (as opposed to supporter) for my shield of arms. I think the result is pretty good, but I am still trying to integrate the broad ax.

Interesting design. Some might see it as too like a capital-S supporter, but with the fox sitting rather than rampant it seems OK to me.
Given your motto, including the axe seems well nigh mandatory! Maybe it could lie (lay? - never could keep that straight) on the grass just above the motto ribbon? Or maybe the fox could somehow hold it, reflecting your crest, if that wouldn’t clash with also holding the shield?
Or possibly the fox and axe just as in your crest, with the fox holding the shield suspended from it’s guige (sp? - the strap thingee used to hang a shield on the wall)?
Or others may have better ideas!
How about this? I added the ax and "re-capitated" the fox to make him a bit more friendly.http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/zz250/lls38/FoxShieldOvalAx.png[/URL]
I like it! Can’t tell if the fox is friendlier (your initial image has disappeared) but it appears you’ve buried the hatchet!
