Well .... I’ve been thinking about my headstone for a few years (silly, ain’t it?) and decided I’d like to have an old-style engraving of my coat of arms.  While looking at a stonecarver’s site I came across this one that I wanted to share with our membership.  Granted (or is that "granite"), it is a memorial and not a gravestone ... but this company just might be what I’m looking for:

Pleasant…... dreams?

Bwa-hahahahahahahaha

Nice. I see them advertise all of the time in my bi-monthly copy of the Hibernian Digest. In fact there is an engraving of a coat of arms for Devaney in the crosses section, page 2, second row, first one on left. It is the emblem of the AOH (Hibernians) and it is quasi-heraldic. So, I suspect you can get it engraved, or painted, as one sees on the first link you posted.

There is also a large engraving of Mac Duinnsléibhe (Dunleavy) on a monument in the monument section, page two, first row, first and second pic (front and back).

As there is also on Ó Fionnagainn (Finnegan), on the same page second row last one on right (the back of the one on the left).

And as there is in the Scottish tradition in monuments, page three, first row, first one on left and Jacobs in the same section, second row, first one on left, which has four arms engraved. Also note McDonald in the same section, page four, row three last one on right.

***OK at first it only showed only your one post and now ther is another with links to the ones I mentioned - sorry***

****And now there is no new posts and yet there were several just moments ago and now I had to sign in again just to get into the MB—just a head’s up****

I’ve always liked Dr Johnson’s grave marker:

I have a smaller marker compared to Dr. Johnson’s, but it is a similar style bronze plaque. Under my name which is centered on my marker is a clan badge (Keith). However, having seen Seb’s post and the picture of Dr. Johnson’s marker, I may change the badge to my shield.

I don’t think it’s silly at all to think about these things. It is one way to enjoy one’s heraldry while one is still around to do so. You can never assume one’s friends and relatives are going to do what you ask. Why should they? :p

Anyone have a hatchment made? Any suggestions as to heraldic artists?

Regards.

My favorite hatchment painter is Baz Manning:

Seb,

Thanks for the link—Baz is truly amazing!  I’ve added his page to my list of heraldic favorites.

I think that it is a carrying bag that he offers with his table shields. It seems that they are much more sturdy when transporting them to dinners and events. You need not worry about the wood becoming crumpled like a little table banner. I’ve found that Baz is both an amazing artist and a wonderful heraldist to talk to.
