Congressional silver medal for leading the decisive charge at Cowpens, 1781. Later a U.S. senator and 5th governor of Maryland. The arms, which appear on his father's tombstone and were on his grandfather's seal, are those of the Howard Dukes of Norfolk; the Maryland Howards entitlement to them is disputed.
