I’ve been getting this catalogue for years. Its where you can purchase swords, and period items from Roman times to Samurai times. They also sell items such as jewelery, clothing, etc.

What really caught my eye is the below link where you can purchase unpainted wooden sheilds. These are really awesome. Kinda expensive though.

If you can track down a knowledgable SCA-type they can show you how to build your own shield with plywood and a tree trunk. It is rather impressive and very effective.  The shield turns out nice and sturdy ("combat ready" was their phrase)...

I’ve been telling myself that I am going to make one for almost a year now, just haven’t had the materials and the recolection in the same place at the same time…

This is cool. I think that Guy Powers has a coat on a real shield. I think I seen a pic of it once. It looked great.

I’ve found these links as well.  I’ve found links on how to make your own, however, haven’t saved any.

I found this in the latest Museum Replicas Limited catalogue (#92), p. 28

If you use acrylic artists paints, apply a coat or two of white acrylic gesso to prime the canvas.  The straps—if consistant with their earlier shields—will be thick, but not top-class strapping.  If enough strapping is available, I’d cut off the modern buckles and rivet on 14th century reproductions.

Very cool. T.R. should post the url he has for shields as well.

Aside from you didn’t someone recently (last 6 months) have their arms done on an actual shield as well? I seem to remember it turned out great.
