Hi all,
Here are two images of Christopher Columbus’ 1493 Grant of Arms from Felix Martinez Llorente’s article “El Escudo de Armas de Cristobal Colon: Estudio de un Acrecentamiento Heraldico†(Cuadernos de Ayala no. 26, April-June 2006, pp. 19-25):

Enjoy!
Columbus CoA (specially quarter 3) is a good example of what has to be avoided in heraldry. It would be intresting to know if his descendants use some of this arms. Cristobal Colon de Carvajal y Ramirez de Haro, 15th Duke of Veragua, Marquis of Jamaica, 17th Admiral of the Indies.
The historical interest & value makes study & appreciation of these arms worthwhile, even if (in agreement with the last post) we wouldn’t want to encourage more armorial archipelagos in new American arms.
Should the field in the first quarter realy be green? The field of the arms of Castille is red, and surely this quarter is set to represent Castille as the second quarter is Leon.

The arms of Castile are indeed on a Gules field, but he was granted Vert rather than Gules.
