Okay - don’t kill me! I am a perfectionist and I waffle too. Sorry guys, my last set of Arms just wasn’t doing it. So I drew a Rat Salient and started up again.

Color Scheme: On this (or, argent, vert and sable) I have been consistent. Give me that much?
Charge - Compass Rose: Again, this is a charge I’ve used before and I like it a lot. To me, it signifies finding your way in all things. In this process, I’ve gone in every direction…
Rat: this is new and old at the same time. I was born in mid-summer, 1972. I am a Rat. I don’t know if anybody else puts much stock in Chinese Astrology, but I do. I identify completely with the Rat. They’re survivors.
So there ya go - that’s what’s been on my fridge and what I like. It is a bit Germanic, but I love it anyway.

If you’re not happy with something, then you shouldn’t settle with it. A lot of people take years to finalize a design (Myself included).
That being said, honestly I’m not really a fan of your new design. Most of it has to do with there being too many tinctures involved. I would suggest a max of three tinctures, and often times it’s even best to just stop with two. I’ve never seen a emblazon yet that I care for that had more than three tinctures.
Don’t make me post the checky… I’ll do it, I’ll post it and then you’ll be sorry! shakes tiny fist
Kind of rough, but it gets the idea across. While this easily could be cut back to two tinctures, I did work in at least three.

I was just playing around with a a two-tone argent/sable combo.
What about this? Still keep the four tinctures but possibly breaks it up a little better. I hope I get this right.
Argent a rat Sable, chief Vert with three compass rose Or

You could do that, which would be an improvement on his original design. But honestly if you do that, in my opinion you’d be much better off making the compass Argent as well.

I tried that variation and wasn’t happy with it. The compass roses, regardless of metal, on a vert chief, have an overly US military feel. I’m not a 3-star anything.
To be perfectly honest, I like the original design as is with 4 tinctures the best. I wouldn’t change it again.
With the badge having a green rat… And the desire to avoid the US Military feel…
Argent a rat Vert between three compass roses sable?
Argent a rat vert on a chief sable three compass roses Argent?
Argent a rat vert on a chief vert three compass roses Or
I also wonder if there is a "need" for the chief at all in the original.
Per pale Argent and vert a rat (with lots of muscles and pointy yet clean teeth who is polite enough to keep his toungue in his mouth whom we shall call "Artie") sable
BUT if we are past the fridge test stages and the armiger is happy… I do think the original is quite unique.

I need to address the badge. It will be a sable rat holding a dagger.

I could eliminate the chief, but then I would have to counter-charge the c. roses. It would look nice, but the big, sable, rat would look out of place at that point. I dunno, I’ll give it a whirl this afternoon.

Yeah I think we are past the fridge test. It’s still nice to get other folks reactions.
Well you thought you had decided before as well, so don’t count your chickens before they’ve hatched . Your previous "final" design was far superior in my opinion.

Sans chief, the counter-charged c. rose in the middle loses a lot of visibility.
